Description
Gut-wrenching with a side of terror. That’s how author Mary Catherine describes the heartbreak of losing a child, the most devastating event that could happen in any parent’s life, whether the child is hours or decades old. Finding your way through those sickening stages of grief is a journey that every parent must make one way or another.
Mary Catherine shares her story of bereavement, with warmth and humor, even when things seem most bleak. Writing about three generations of kinfolk, who were also bereaved parents, she shares her memories attending family funerals with her sister, including the comical scattering of their mother’s ashes gone awry. With professional grief counseling and a written prescription for verbal freedom, she was reminded how to make the best of horrific circumstances.
Swimming in Oatmeal: Cautionary Tales of Bereavement is a testimonial to one woman’s effort to survive in the only way she knows how: with family and humor usually at the most inappropriate times.
